Your journey into Morocco’s rugged heart begins with an early morning departure from your hotel or riad in Marrakech. As you ascend into the High Atlas Mountains, you'll wind through the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260m)—the highest road pass in Morocco—where dramatic mountain scenery unfolds at every turn. Expect a snaking road with breathtaking landscapes, Berber villages perched on the slopes, and ever-changing hues of the rock formations.
Your first stop is Aït Barka, a small mountain village, where you'll have time to stretch your legs and capture stunning photos. From here, the road climbs toward the Tizi n’Tichka summit, offering sweeping panoramic views over the valleys below.
By late morning, you’ll arrive at the legendary Aït Benhaddou, a striking red-earth ksar (fortified village) that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This historic labyrinth of kasbahs, once a vital stop for caravans trading between Marrakech and the Sahara, has also served as a backdrop for films like Gladiator and Game of Thrones. A local guide will lead you through its winding alleys, sharing stories of its past. Afterward, you'll have some free time to explore and enjoy lunch at a nearby restaurant.
Continuing the journey, you’ll pass through Ouarzazate, often called the "Gateway to the Sahara," before heading into the lush landscapes of the Skoura palm grove and the fragrant Valley of Roses. By late afternoon, you'll arrive in the dramatic Dades Valley, known for its rugged rock formations and winding gorges.
Tonight, you'll stay in a charming, traditionally styled hotel nestled in the heart of Dades Gorges. Enjoy a warm Moroccan dinner before settling in for the night.

After a traditional Moroccan breakfast, you'll set off from Dades Gorges, following the famous Road of 1,000 Kasbahs. This scenic route winds through the Dades Valley, where clusters of ancient kasbahs and vibrant Berber villages dot the landscape.
About 45 km further, you’ll reach Tineghir, known for its lush palm groves and historic Jewish quarter. Continuing onwards, you’ll arrive at the Todra Gorges, a spectacular natural wonder where sheer rock walls tower 300 metres high. Enjoy free time to explore—whether that’s a relaxed walk along the riverbed or watching rock climbers tackle the dramatic cliffs.
After soaking in the beauty of the gorges, your journey continues towards the vast dunes of Erg Chebbi, passing through Erfoud, a town famous for its fossil workshops and desert gateway atmosphere. Along the way, you’ll stop for lunch before reaching Merzouga, where the golden dunes rise from the horizon.
Upon arrival, you’ll switch from four wheels to camelback, embarking on a 1.5-hour camel trek into the heart of the dunes. As the sun sets, casting a fiery glow over the sand, you’ll arrive at your desert camp, nestled in a peaceful oasis.
Tonight, you'll experience true Saharan hospitality, sleeping in a traditional nomadic tent or beneath a sky ablaze with stars. Gather around the campfire with Berber guides, listening to rhythmic drum beats and sharing stories of the desert.

Your route takes you through the vast landscapes of the Ziz Valley, where clusters of date palms stretch along the riverbanks, creating a striking contrast against the desert backdrop. Passing through Errachidia, you’ll cross into the Middle Atlas Mountains, making a stop in Midelt, a town nestled between mountain peaks, where you’ll have free time for lunch.
Continuing north, you'll venture into the lush Cedar Forests near Azrou, home to Morocco’s famous Barbary macaques. Take a break to observe these playful wild monkeys in their natural habitat before traveling onward.
A short drive later, you’ll pass through Ifrane, often called the “Switzerland of Morocco” for its Alpine-style architecture, cool climate, and clean streets. From here, the road winds down toward Fes, where you’ll arrive in the early evening.
